We all know that confidence is a good quality to have. Let’s get this straight, I mean confidence, not arrogance, those are two very different things. Now I know what you’re thinking, ‘But I’m not a confident person.’ That’s fine – you don’t have to be... Fake it. Many successful people got to where they are through being confident. Whether they are naturally confident or had to fake it doesn’t really matter, the outcome is still the same. Did you know that when Beyoncé is performing she has an alter ego? She calls herself Sasha fierce and becomes an entirely different person. Sasha Fierce oozes confidence – but it’s all pretend, and there’s nothing wrong with that. As long as you believe it, others will too. These are just 5 of the reasons why confidence is key in your day to day life, but the benefits are never-ending.

#1 Confidence leads to success

Do you want to know why confident people are more successful? That’s because they try in the first place. They 'Never let the fear of striking out keep them from playing the game' This doesn’t mean to say that these people aren’t scared or doubt their choices, they could just be faking it too. Now, just to be clear, not being confident doesn’t mean you can’t be successful, but it can hold you back.

#2 Confidence overcomes fear.

If you’re not a very confident person, chances are you’ll probably be scared of a couple of things. Scared of failure, what other people think of you and even scared of the unknown. Any of those sound familiar? Well, confidence can help you overcome and face these fears.

#3 Better communication.

Confident people tend to communicate better with others. There are no awkward pauses, and they are sure of what they are saying. This can help in all aspects of your life whether it be personal or professional. If you stand behind what you are saying with confidence, people are more likely to listen.

#4 People are more likely to believe in you.

Let’s say you’re in a meeting; you’re looking for investors in your new start-up company. Now If you go in there all quiet and reserved, the investors are going to take one look at you and decide straight away that it isn’t for them. You get back what you put out. How can you expect anyone else to believe in you if you sound unsure yourself? Confidence is a quality that shines through; you let off an aura that others can sense and feel.

#5 Finally, you are more likely to believe in yourself.

If you tell yourself you can’t do something, guess what? Chances are you’re not going to do it. The more you tell yourself something, the more likely you are to believe it. If something comes around that you’re unsure of, stop, take a minute and say to yourself ‘I can do this’. Obviously don’t say that out loud, you may get a few strange looks if you walk around talking to yourself.

Conclusion

Chances are, everyone has struggled with confidence at some point in their lives. Whether you’re born with it or have had to work towards it, sometimes, we all have a bad day and think ‘I can’t do that’. We’re only human. Confidence is an attractive quality. It can help you get the girl/guy or get the job you’ve always wanted. Confidence breaks down barriers and turns what used to seem impossible, possible.   Written by Rachel Erin, Media manager at Australian Accident Helpline.  A national personal injury compensation company based in Australia.
